Decentralisation of the Medium Temperature Hot Water Campus Heating System at University Hospital Galway

Fallon Consulting Engineers has been commissioned by Varming Consulting Engineers (on behalf of HSE West) to provide Civil & Structural and PSDP services on this complex utilities project at University College, Galway.

Carey Developments Limited are the selected Contractor for Phase 1a of this multi-phase project, with the Design Team being led by Varming Consulting Engineers.

The works entail the removal of the existing steam generating plant and MTHW distribution network & heat exchangers. These are being replaced with local package boiler houses with highly efficient gas condensing boilers, which will be fed by a new underground and rooftop natural gas piped network. These works are to be carried out over the entire campus and they will be in the immediate vicinity of functioning clinical areas, with underground trenching being routed through highly serviced areas. This requires significant technical design and due diligence to be carried out by the Design Team, and close consultation with the selected contractors.
